So anyway yes, having anticipated doing a 45 minute set, maybe about an hour or so, I ended up pretty much DJing for the whole of Saturday night. Here are some people sitting down in an amusing fashion as I try to decide what to play after Sit Down, eventually picking a request.

Hurrah. Oddest moment was the request slips I kept getting from the ladies at the front. They were emphatically not requests for music.

That was what I was aiming for, particularly on the second set - I thought I was just doing The Miserablists and long enough for them to get changed and come back out, so given there was a big crowd and they were all up and bouncy I threw everything I had to keep them going. Then it gradually dawned on me that I was in for a long ride... so I stuck some Joy Division on.

What were the requests for? Your head presumably, especially after JJ72!

JJ72 was a request that I couldn't really turn down, since it was requested by the man who runs the night. They included requests like "Can I get a kiss from the DJ" and "Do you want to come to my party on Friday?"...

Surely a request for JJ72 is good reason to pack up your CDs and get the hell out. Itis a slippery slope to My Vitriol.

I will have another outing soon. I'd forgotten quite how much fun it is (last week doesn't count, I was just playing around with a half-empty club to get used to the kit.

Oh that's quite alright. I don't think I'm DJing next week (which is good, I'll be able to bask in the reflected glory of last week and make the most of it with the bitter singletons - it being Down With Valentine) but come anyway.

Marvellous. Won't drink so much red wine next Friday night then...

I wholeheartedly endorse this Down With Valentine concept.

hmm, I got a curious text from a certain young lady at 2am on Sunday which suggested that she may already have been making the most of it with the bitter singletons...

Amazing choice for a last song there...

That was largely Carl's fault. I have something even more special planned for next time if I get Last Song Rights...

Top stuff! So sorry I didn't make it - was knackered after day of moving-ness, & also small quantity of Bad Stuff occurred which *really* meant clubbing was right out :-/ But it looks like a fab set! You due on again soon?

[info]beingjdc

February 6 2006, 11:58:23 UTC 6 years ago

Oh don't worry about it. I shall probably be on again soon, no date fixed. Have a relaxing oirish scene to calm you down. Not at all for the purposes outline above. Oh no.

Do you always DJ this because this setlist is like a figure I can't even imagine % better than the time we went. Then it was drab and unexciting and hardly anyone was dancing. I'd have been dancing a lot to this. Yay for Sandie Shaw.

[info]beingjdc

February 27 2006, 17:34:38 UTC 6 years ago

No, I don't DJ every time. Not even usually! It's normally 'Len and Cliff' (Mike and Carl), though they have had other guest DJs. I've only once, maybe twice, thought the guest DJ wasn't good enough, but they do like to keep it gloomy until about midnight, like when I played Fernando I was going to play Chiquitita and Carl happened to be there and said that was too upbeat for that time in the evening...

Your blog suggests this is the very night you came, but that you arrived just as my first set was finishing, and I don't know how long you then stayed but as I say I started again about an hour / hour and a half after that. Can't really remember what Carl (I think it was him) played inbetween times, I was recovering and catching up with my chums.

Yeah i think it may have been just the other dj i heard as I'm sure hearing Angel Eyes would have made me very excited. I've made a little edit on my blog anyway as I was being rather harsh :)
